Technical Cooperation between UNDP and DEVNET

Nicaragua-China - An initiation plan to promote new markets for sustainable agro-industry was signed between UNDP Nicaragua and DEVNET International in December 2012.

The main purpose of this initiative is to conceptualize and formulate a strategic document that will promote a sustainable production system in Nicaragua in order to export agro-industrial products, in particular in the Chinese market. The implementation process of this initiative will include identification of local SMEs and cooperatives with a potential for exports and the establishment of public-private partnerships between China and Nicaragua in order to promote technology transfer and capacity development in the Nicaraguan agro-industrial sector.

Mr. Tony Morrow, Executive Director of the DEVNET’s Beijing office – the sole authorized representative of DEVNET International in China- and Dr. Arsenio Rodriguez, former Director of the United Nations Environment Programme in Latin America and former Coordinator of the World Bank Mesoamerican Biological Corridor initiative, are in charge, on behalf of DEVNET, to direct the implementation of this Alliance with UNDP-Nicaragua.

The DEVNET/UNDP-Nicaragua initiative will contribute to Nicaragua’s Human Development Plan 2012-2016.
