WINNER Nepal holds training session on Marketing Concepts

Kathmandu, 2 December 2011 – A two-day training meeting on Marketing Concepts was organized by WINNER Nepal from 17-18 November 2011 in coordination with Women Entrepreneurship Development Committee (WEDC) of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI).

Of the 22 participants, three represented the social organisations sector: the Technical and Skill Development Centre for Blind and Disabled (TSDCBD), the single women's organisation Women for Human Rights (WHR) and SABAH Nepal, an organisation promoting home-based women entrepreneurs.

The training was led by Chandra Prasad Kachhipati, Executive Director of Sana Hastakala, and Sunil Chitrakar, Executive Director of Mahaguthi. Both organizations are leading Nepalese handicraft exporters. The training was conducted especially for SMEs and focused mainly on how the participants could market their products.

WINNER success at Nepal-China Tibet Trade Fair

Kathmandu, 11 November 2011 – The 13th Nepal-China Tibet Economic and Trade Fair was held from 2 to 6 November 2011 in Kathmandu to increase economic cooperation between Nepal and the autonomous region of Tibet.

Of the forty participants from Nepal, five were WINNER entrepreneurs who make honey, pashmina products, toilet products, medicines and bead, crystal, stone and silver jewelry. All five WINNER entrepreneurs did brisk business, making retail sales worth of at least US$ 1,000 each and establishing important contacts for future business.

TIPS Zimbabwe wins “Best SME Consultant” award

Harare, 8 November 2011 – DEVNET’s Technological Information Promotion System (TIPS) office in Zimbabwe won the award of 'Best SME Consultant' at the recent first-ever Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) International Expo in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Expo was organized by The Business Connect, a weekly business newspaper, under the slogan "Working together we can make a difference".

The aim of the Expo, held from 26 to 29 October 2011, was to create a platform where all stakeholders in the SME sector could converge to exhibit their products and services. Alongside the Expo, a conference on "Financing for SMEs: Reality or a mirage?" was organised at which financiers were able to interact with SMEs and discuss the financing of small businesses.

According to Business Connect chief executive Mrs Blessing Magenga, “to help beat the grim financial crisis in the world, SMEs from all nations should work together to seek co-prosperity by partnering, supporting and complementing each other.”

DEVNET and IPS to cooperate for sustainable development

Rome, 29 September 2011 – DEVNET INTERNATIONAL has signed a framework agreement with the Inter Press Service (IPS) Association to cooperate in the fields of the green economy, urban sustainability, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), technological innovation in favour of development and gender equality.

“The agreement is part of a joint commitment to share the respective expertise of both associations in the promotion and development of initiatives aimed at sustainable development and the wellbeing of peoples,” said Phil Harris, DEVNET INTERNATIONAL’s Executive Director.
