DEVNET China and DEVNET International mission to Nicaragua

Nicaragua, August 2013 - DEVNET China and DEVNET International travelled on mission to Nicaragua in August 2013 in the framework of the UNDP/UNOPS/DEVNET Initiation Plan for sustainable agro-production in Nicaragua with a group of business owners and representatives from China.  The project was developed to promote business-to-business cooperation’s between China companies and Nicaragua companies in an effort to promote Chinese business ventures while supporting the development of Nicaragua.

The trip was exciting and successful, and several of the projects that the China companies will be involved in will also provide the people of Nicaragua an opportunity to develop their agriculture, manufacturing, road infrastructure, energy production, and food processing.  This cooperation will help Nicaragua develop their potential to export food products to China, while supporting the development of new markets for Chinese companies.

DEVNET and the Chinese teams met with the leadership of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Operations Project Services (UNOPS), the Prime Minister of Nicaragua, Minister’s of several departments in the Government, and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).  Meetings with leaders from private investment funds interested in participating in this project were also held.  The China team visited many different factories and facilities that resulted in great projects that will provide win-win programs for both China and Nicaragua that meets the Nicaragua Government Development Plan.

The second business trip is scheduled for November 2013 to promote more China businesses in the development program of Nicaragua under the United Nations Development Programme. This project is being expanded to promote this project under a 5-year development plan.
